The Monastir Medical Journal (MMJ) publishes original articles, clinical cases, letters to the editor, systematic reviews and state of the art that promote medicine and medical science researchers. It publishes original and influential research in all areas of clinical practice, translational medicine, medical and health advances, public health, and topics of general interest for biomedical and socio-medical professional communities.
Manuscript Submission
Manuscripts could be written in English or French languages
Abstracts should be written in English and French languages and should not exceed 250 words
Key words (3 to 6) should be written in English and French languages

1. Original Article
This is a description of original research that improves the state of knowledge in the health sciences. The text of the article should be subdivided as follows: introduction, patients (or material) and methods, results, discussion, and conclusion.
The introduction describes the subject and explains the reasons which prompted the authors to carry out the work. At the end of the introduction, authors should discuss the main objective of the work and its implications.
The material and methods section should clearly describe the type of study, the criteria for selecting the study population, and the composition of the groups. The statistical methodology must be presented.
The results section accurately reports the results of the study.
The discussion section should comment the results without repeating them. These results are compared with those published in the literature.
The conclusion should highlight the implications of the results for future practice or research.
Article should be no more than 15 pages.
The abstract should be structured (aim, methods, conclusion) and should not exceed 250 words.
References should not exceed 50 references.
2.Systematic Review
This section brings together feature articles providing an in-depth look at recent developments in a subject, topical issue, or new progress, based on a critical analysis of data from the literature. It is therefore to provide a critical overview of the literature on a given topic.
Article should be no more than 15 pages.
The abstract should be structured (aim, methods, conclusion) and should not exceed 250 words.
References should not exceed 50 references.
3.State of the Art
The objective of this form of publication is to report in a most possible complete way the state of the art on a technique or the management of pathology or particular clinical situation.
Article should be no more than 10 pages.
The abstract, not structured, should not exceed 250 words.
References should not exceed 30 references.
4. Clinical Case
The clinical reports exceptional observations remarkable for their didactic. It includes a short introduction, the observation reduced to significant facts, a concise commentary, a conclusion.
Article should be no more than 5 pages.
The abstract should be structured (aim, case(s), conclusion) and should not exceed 250 words.
References should not exceed 15 references.
5.Technical Note
These articles concern new equipment or techniques.
Article should be no more than 5 pages.
The abstract, not structured, should not exceed 250 words.
References should not exceed 5 references.
6.Editorial
The editorial can draw attention to a hot topic or report an opinion on a general subject. The text should not be subdivided.
Article should be no more than 5 pages.
No abstract is required
References should not exceed 5 references.
7.Letter to the editorial
The letter to the editor can either give an opinion on a previously published article to open a debate, or to deliver a personal experience.
Article should be no more than 3 pages.
No abstract is required
References should not exceed 3 references.
Manuscript Preparation
– Title page and abstracts (annex 1)
It must include:
- Title: A full title in French and English (maximum 15 words). No abbreviations will be used.
- Authors:
The name in capital letters followed by a point then the initial of the first name in the order in which they should appear.
Authors’ affiliations: address and references of the institutions of each author.
The corresponding author’s email address.
- Abstract: Abstracts should be written in English and French languages and should not exceed 250 words (see article types).
- Keywords : Key words (3 to 6) should be written in English and French languages and presented in lowercase and separated by a comma.
– Full Text
The submitted text should be written in a clear and understandable style. Authors should ensure that the French (or English) is simple and correct.
Abbreviations should be explained when they first appear in the text, then used consistently and invariably and abbreviated units of measurement should conform to international nomenclatures.
– Acknowledgments
It precedes bibliographic references. In this section, the authors have the opportunity to cite the sources of support, in particular the sources of funding that enabled the realization of this study and to thank collaborators not identified as authors.
– Conflicts of interest
Declaration of conflict of interest that exists or not.
– References
- References should correspond to the published texts.
- They are numbered in order of appearance in the text.
- When cited in the text, reference numbers are superscript
- The names of the authors of articles or book chapters will be set according to the standards of “Vancouver”: International Committee of Medical Journal Editors.
- If the number of authors is up to 6, only the first six names are cited, followed by a comma and the words “et al.“.
- Presentation of an article from a journal publication
Name (s) and initial (s) of the first name (s) of the author (s). Title of the article. Name abbreviated review in line with those of the Index Medicus. Publication year; volume: first page-last page.
- Presentation of a book chapter
Name (s) and initial (s) of the first name (s) of the author (s) of the chapter. Chapter title. In: author (s). Title of the book in the original language. city of edition; publication year. First page – last page.
– Tables
- Each table should be presented on a separate page at the end of the manuscript and should be numbered at the top in Roman, in order of appearance in the text, and accompanied by a title and caption if necessary.
- The abbreviations used must be mentioned at the bottom of the tables.
- The heads of columns denoting numerical values should indicate the unit of measurement used.
– Figures
- The figures should be of high quality and include a call number (Arabic numerals) at the bottom, according to the order of appearance in the text and a title.
- Photographed patients should not be identifiable.
Avoid redundancy between tables and figures.
– Images
- Images (JPG, EPS, TIF, GIF, BMP, PNG) should be included in the manuscript. They must be copyright free and referenced or belong to the author.
- The minimum resolution for figures is 300 DPI for black and white or color photographs and 500–1000 DPI for graphs and diagrams. Using high-resolution files is essential for printing purposes.
Plagiat
After all submission, a check by an anti-plagiarism software is systematically carried out.
Plagiarism leads to the rejection of the article.
Manuscripts that do not comply with these instructions will be returned to the author even before their submission to the review committee.
